How To Get Electric Die Shockwave
- For the Zombies map of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, see Die Maschine.
- "The Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine was initially designed to be an Exo-Element 1 collector, but an incident led to a design change. During an outdoor test, an assistant accidentally ejected a full capacitor all at once, triggering a shockwave blast that destroyed a military transport and Doctor Vogel's personal automobile. Projekt Endstation saw the device's full potential as a wonder weapon - and the assistant saw the full potential of a firing squad."
- — Intel
The Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, also known as the D.I.E. Machine and the Prototyp Einheit-00 (German: Prototype Unit-00 ) is a wonder weapon featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in the map Die Maschine and Outbreak. It can be acquired either through the Mystery Box, through the keycard drop by the Megaton, completing a trial and getting to the Legendary rarity, or possibly through completing the "Coffin Dance" easter egg.
The initial variant of the wonder-weapon is known as the D.I.E. Shockwave, but it is also upgradable into 4 different elemental variants: the D.I.E. NOVA-5, the D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter, the D.I.E. Electrobolt, and the D.I.E. Thermophasic.
As of Season Six, the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine can be Pack-a-Punched, where it will then be known as the D.E.A.D. Thunderblast.

Variants
D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter
- "Cryoemitter huh... I may not know much about the weapon, but I know what those words mean. You're about to put the freeze on those S.O.Bs."
- — Mackenzie Carver
The D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter is one of the ammo variants of the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, swapping the standard single-shot shockwave blast of the original for a continuous stream of a liquid nitrogen-like substance that causes slow down and eventual freezing in zombies. The capacitor for the Cryo-Emitter upgrade is stored in a chained up box in the Medical Lab, opposite the Dark Aether portal.
The chains can be broken open by chemically freezing them, requiring a liquid nitrogen substitute. One can be created by having a Megaton or the split variants hurl a radioactive attack at the tree between the Pond and Crash Site with the fungus growing on it. This will cause it to suddenly mutate and produce a strange liquid with immense freezing potential.
A beaker to collect it can be found hidden in a crate that can be found in the "Penthouse" location of the Bunker ruins, teetering on the edge opposite of where the Der Wunderfizz is located in. It must be shot with the D.I.E. Shockwave to cause it to fall off the ledge and break open, near the tree, with the beaker being perfectly fine. Pick up and interact with the Fungus to place the beaker under it, which will start to collect the liquid, which will eventually fill after a little bit of time.
Take the filled beaker to the chained box and interact with it to freeze the chains which will cause them to shatter violently. This will allow the box to be opened and the Cyro-Emitter capacitor be taken for use.
It can be upgraded further by Pack-a-Punching, where it will be known as the D.E.A.D. Glacialator.
D.I.E. NOVA-5
- "Nova 5? Hmm... If the Nazi weaponized it for close combat, can't imagine it to be *as* lethal as Nova 6... Maybe hold your breath when firing, just in case?"
- — Elizabeth Grey
The D.I.E. NOVA-5 is one of the ammo variants of the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, swapping the shockwave blast of the Shockwave variant for a grenade launcher style shot that unleashes a cloud of NOVA-5, dealing high damage to any enemy in the cloud. The capacitor for the NOVA-5 upgrade is stored in a vined up box at the Crash Site, against the wall leading towards the pond from the Plane's cockpit.
The vines can be destroyed by using toxic gas, requiring a canister of toxic gas. One can be created by filling an empty canister with Hound Gas. The needed canister can be found behind the rubble on a desk on the 2nd floor of the Bunker ruins. By using the vacuum function of the D.I.E. Shockwave the canister will be sucked to the user and can be picked up then. Take the canister down to the right of Deadshot Daiquiri and place it down. Next the player must kill a Plaguehound next to the canister, then the machine will suck up the gas and is able to be collected.
Take the filled canister to the box and place it on top, then shoot at it to the destroy the canister thus destroying the vines encasing the box. This will allow the box to be opened and the NOVA-5 capacitor to be taken for use.
It can be upgraded further by Pack-a-Punching, where it will be known as the D.E.A.D. Virulence.
D.I.E. Electrobolt
- "Electrobolt ammo. I suspect that your enemies will may find it shocking! Please do not confuse that for an attempt at humour."
- — Oskar Strauss
The D.I.E. Electrobolt is one of the ammo variants of the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, swapping the shockwave blast of the Shockwave variant for a beam of energy that shocks enemies that it contacts.
For the Electrobolt capacitor to be taken for use, the player must first build the Aetherscope, go into the Dark Aether, grab Dr. Vogel's diary by the Der Wechsler terminal, and to interact with Dr. Vogel while holding his diary in three locations. These are steps within the map Easter Egg "Seal the Deal". Doing these will open two unique Dark Aether Anomaly that have minorly altered versions of the Dark Aether, critical to unlocking both the Electrobolt and Thermophasic upgrades. The Anomaly in order to complete the Electrobolt steps will spawn below the Pack-A-Punch machine.
Once the player enters the anomaly there are three crystals that glow orange they must go to in any order. One is at 'Penthouse' level of the bunker ruins, behind the Der Wunderfizz machine, another is above the obstruction between the Crash Site and the Tunnel leading into the Project facility up on the right wall right before entering, and the final one at the Pond on the right side leading towards the facility entrance as well. By using the secondary function of the D.I.E. the player can suck up the glowing energy of the crystal and must take them down to the crate at the far back right below Pack-A-Punch. Then shoot the crate while the orange energy is absorbed to power the crate.
After the energy from the three spots have been shot at the crate all three lightbulbs should be lit up. This will allow the box to be opened and the Electrobolt capacitor to be taken for use.
It can be upgraded further by Pack-a-Punching, where it will be known as the D.E.A.D. Joltsurge, gaining increased damage, magazine capacity and increases movement speed whilst firing.

D.I.E. Thermophasic
- "Heheh... It shoots fireballs? You know what that means, don't ya? It shoots fireballs."
- — Mackenzie Carver
The D.I.E. Thermophasic is one of the ammo variants of the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, swapping the concussive blast of the Shockwave variant for a similar blast, but one of plasma energy that burns away what it is fired at.
For the Thermophasic capacitor to be taken for use, the player must first build the Aetherscope, go into the Dark Aether, grab Dr. Vogel's diary by the Der Wechsler terminal, and to interact with Dr. Vogel while holding his diary in three locations. These are steps within the map Easter Egg "Seal the Deal". Doing these will open two unique Dark Aether portals that have minorly altered versions of the Dark Aether, critical to unlocking both the Electrobolt and Thermophasic upgrades. The portal in order to complete the Thermophasic steps will spawn in-between the Pond and the Crash Site.
Within any of the Dark Aether versions, or 10 waves past first entering the Dark Aether, the cockpit at the Crash Site will rise up to reveal a Dark Aether fast travel. Beside the fast travel is closed fuse box, shooting at it or hitting it with a weapon butt will cause it to open and reveal an undamaged fuse which can be taken for use.
The unique anomaly has to be taken to spawn the Laser Cutter on the opposite side to the Deadshot Daiquiri machine, placing the fuse will cause the laser cutter to instantly turn on and cut a section of the box before forcing the players out of the Dark Aether.
The crate that houses the capacitor can be found on a broken down truck in the Pond, near where the anomaly was. The crate is located on the truck bed, straddling the cab and can be interacted with to be opened to take the Thermophasic capacitor for use.
It can be upgraded further by Pack-a-Punching, where it will be known as the D.E.A.D. Immolator.
